Right at the start of the negotiations of REACH the BUAV and its coalition the ECEAE were there providing suggestions for how to avoid animal testing.

In 2001 the BUAV and ECEAE released a highly influential 2-part report designed to influence the REACH negotiations.

Part 1. Provided the framework for testing chemicals without using animals. This allowed regulators and scientist to see that such a novel approach was possible. Aspects of this report can now be seen in the REACH guidance and legislation.

Part 2. Outlined a seven step action plan required to implement the above strategy.
