‘Cosmetics and Household Product Testing on animals is not over’

The BUAV has lead the way in campaigning to end the suffering of animals for cosmetics testing. This led to the UK government banning cosmetics testing on animals in 1997. Our campaign continued and now extends to the European Union with a ban on cosmetic testing on animals  which came into force on 11th March 2009.

• The Good News: Cosmetics testing on animals was banned within the European Union on 11 March 2009
• The Bad News:  Some cosmetic ingredients can still be tested on animals and included in cosmetic products. Find out more about the EU ban and what it means. Household product ingredients are still tested on animals everywhere, including the UK
• How you can help - Only buy products from companies approved under our Humane Cosmetics Standard and Humane Household Products Standard – these companies have joined our standards to prove that the ingredients they use are free from animal testing after a Fixed Cut-Off date.  Click here to see a full list of our approved companies.
