Please join Morrissey in supporting No Cruel Cosmetics!

I am delighted to welcome in 2012 with the announcement that Morrissey is supporting our No Cruel Cosmetics campaign to end animal testing for new cosmetics sold in the European Union.

The BUAV has campaigned tirelessly over the past 20 years to end the use of animals in cosmetics testing. We were successful in achieving bans on such testing both in the UK and EU. Yet despite this, cosmetics developed in other parts of the world can still be tested on animals before being imported and sold in the EU. A marketing ban, which would bring an end to this cruelty, is due to come into play in 2013. However, this ban is in danger of being delayed by up to 10 years meaning that thousands more animals will suffer and die in these cruel and unnecessary tests.

Next week sees the first anniversary of our No Cruel Cosmetics campaign. It has been a tremendous year and I have been delighted with the support we have received from politicians, celebrities and members of the public across Europe. It has truly been an inspiring time to know the strength of feeling there is on this issue. Thank you to everyone who has supported us and signed our petition.

The coming weeks will be critical. We are expecting an announcement shortly from the European Commission regarding its proposal for the 2013 ban. Thanks to all our campaigning, it would seem that the Commission plans to keep the 2013 deadline, however, it may seek to introduce exemptions. This would be a terrible outcome. The next stage is for us to work with MEPs to ensure the marketing ban is kept intact. It is now more important than ever for you to support this important campaign. If you haven’t already done so, please sign our petition. Please join us and Morrissey in giving a voice to the animals and say NO to cruel cosmetics!

Until next time...
