The latest from the BUAV's Chief Executive...
It has been a week for petitions! I have some excellent news to share with you from the No Cruel Cosmetics campaign – over 100,000 caring consumers have now signed the No Cruel Cosmetics petition. I am delighted that we have reached this important milestone and have been overwhelmed by the incredible response to this campaign. Thank you to everyone who has signed this petition, gathered signatures, and shared it with friends.
Many people are still shocked to learn that animal testing outside the EU for cosmetics and toiletries sold in the EU is still perfectly legal. It may continue to be so unless we act now. Please keep signing and sharing the No Cruel Cosmetics petition to end the ugly practice of testing cosmetics on animals.
Thank you also to everyone who signed and shared our petition to stop Bantin & Kingman building a facility in Yorkshire to breed and supply beagles for experiments. I am delighted that over 28,000 people signed the petition, which has now been submitted to The Planning Inspectorate. This response is a reflection of the widespread strong public concern surrounding the use of animals in research and has been reported widely in the media – Independent on Sunday, BBC News and Hull Daily Mail.
As many of you will know, this is a critical year for animals in laboratories as the Government considers several key issues on animal testing. We believe that Parliament should debate animal experimentation as a matter of urgency and have launched an e-petition calling for this debate. I urge you to support this important BUAV initiative. If you are a UK citizen or resident, please sign the petition, and send it to your friends and family.
Until next time…
