BUAV and Run Free Alliance join forces to end the use of dogs in laboratories

28/02/2014

The Run Free Alliance, established in 2013 with the support of The Kennel Club and The Beagle Welfare Scheme, has launched a petition urging the UK Government to abolish the breeding for, and use of beagles for animal experimentation in the UK.

The BUAV’s Our Best Friends campaign is calling on the Government to end the use of dogs and cats in UK laboratories, with the support of celebrities including Jilly Cooper, Kirsty Gallacher, Ricky Gervais, Paul O’Grady, Mary McCartney, Chris Packham, Miranda Richardson, Greg Rutherford, Helen Skelton, James Bowen, Dave Spikey, Wendy Turner Webster, Ann Widdecombe and Kimberly Wyatt.

Christine Wynne, Founder of the Run Free Campaign and Alliance said: “We are excited to be partners with the BUAV for the OUR BEST FRIENDS campaign as they are the largest and most respected organisation in the UK who aim to ban the use of Beagles, and other dogs, for all animal experimentation. These dogs have no voice but with the BUAV we can jointly speak on their behalf.”

Michelle Thew, Chief Executive at The BUAV said, “We are delighted to join forces with the Run Free Alliance to end the use of dogs in research. By reaching out together to dog lovers across the UK we are sending a strong message to the Government that the public does not want Our Best Friends to suffer and die in UK laboratories.”

Dogs are Our Best Friends, they don’t belong in laboratories.  Please take action today.
