BUAV works with MPs to raise concerns uncovered by our Imperial College investigation in Parliament

19/04/2013

The BUAV has been working with MPs throughout the week to highlight the concerns uncovered during our recent investigation at Imperial College London which revealed terrible animal suffering, poor practices and breaches in project licences.

In addition to our Early Day Motion, Henry Smith MP has raised the issue in the House of Commons when he asked if the Home Office would make a statement on the findings of the BUAV investigation and whether MPs would have the chance to debate the issue. The Leader of the House Andrew Lansley MP replied by saying that:

Home Office inspectors are investigating the allegations of cruelty and bad practice’ and ‘will make recommendations in regard to any action that needs to be taken as a matter of urgency.

A number of written parliamentary questions have also been tabled by MPs, with answers expected next week, including asking for the Home Secretary Teresa May to make a statement on the concerns raised by the BUAV investigation and surrounding reports.

Please keep checking the BUAV website as we continue to raise this issue in Parliament.

Please ask your MP to sign our Early Day Motion (EDM 1286) calling for an independent inquiry into Imperial College London.
