We did it!

14/03/2013

This week we made history! Together we have made Europe a better place for animals.

After over 20 years of campaigning against animal testing for cosmetics in Europe, the EU has finally banned cruel cosmetics in Europe. This means that no company can carry out animal tests for new cosmetics anywhere in the world for products to be sold in the EU. We anticipate that this ban will have a positive knock-on effect around the world and we hope to see companies streamlining their testing policies, bringing the world another step closer to a global ban.

I am immensely proud of what the BUAV has achieved. It has been quite a journey to reach this point! You can read more about our historic campaign here and watch our video.

Thank you for helping us to achieve this milestone for animal welfare in Europe. We could not have done it without you – our supporters. Together our determination has made a real difference to animals!

However, for us the story does not end here. Shockingly over 80% of the world still allows animal testing for cosmetics. So, with the establishment of Cruelty Free International, the only global organization dedicated to ending cosmetics testing on animals, we will now apply our determination and vision on a global stage to ensure that the rest of the world follows Europe’s lead.  We are delighted to have the support of The Body Shop and their new brand activist, Leona Lewis, the British singer and global superstar, to help us with our mission.

Please support Cruelty Free International as we call upon governments and regulators around the world to introduce a ban on the testing of animals for cosmetic products and ingredients. You can also sign the Cruelty Free International global pledge.

Until next time...
