Countdown to the ban that will end animal testing for new cosmetics in the EU!

With only two weeks to go until the import and sale of new animal tested cosmetics is set to be banned in the EU, the BUAV has been counting down to the big day with a range of commemorative activities.

MEPs, celebrities and certified companies have all joined in our celebrations by lighting a candle on our celebratory cake:

This historic victory means that from 11th March onwards, anyone who wishes to sell new cosmetics products and ingredients in the EU must not test them on animals anywhere in the world. The ban affects all cosmetics including toiletries and beauty products from soap to toothpaste.

It has been a long journey but the BUAV, along with our colleagues in the European Coalition to End Animal Experiments (ECEAE), have been there every step of the way fighting the postponements and delays in our determination to end animal testing for cosmetics in Europe. You can read more about the history of our campaign here and view campaign images here.

However, over 80% of the world still allows animal testing for cosmetics. In 2012, the BUAV launched Cruelty Free International - the global organisation dedicated to ending animal testing for cosmetics - to use our expertise and determination to repeat our success in Europe worldwide.

Be sure to keep visiting our website, Facebook page and Twitter account over the next couple of weeks for more exciting updates on the upcoming ban.
