The motion, which has been tabled by Scottish National Party MSP Roderick Campbell, welcomes the confirmation of the ban coming into force in March 2013. The confirmation was given by European Commission Tonio Borg at a recent meeting in Brussels with Cruelty Free International Chief Executive Michelle Thew, who attended the meeting on behalf of the European Coalition to End Animal Experiments.
Michelle Thew said “Our long running campaign to end cosmetic testing on animals has always enjoyed support from across the political spectrum, and it is very satisfying to see this effort being recognised in the Scottish Parliament. Cruelty Free International will continue to push for a full worldwide ban on cosmetics testing, and we look forward to having the support of MSPs for the next stage of the campaign.”
We hope that the motion will gain enough support from MSPs from all parties to enable it to be debated in the Scottish Parliament. If you live in Scotland, please contact your MSPs urging them to sign the motion.
