MPs and peers support BUAV call for animal testing openness
Politicians from all parties attended an event hosted by the BUAV for our campaign to lift the secrecy on animal testing in the UK.
The UK is one of the largest users of animals in experiments but current legislation makes it one of the most secretive in Europe.
The BUAV is calling for a change in the law to allow people to find out what is happening to animals and why. We are not interested in finding out personal or commercially sensitive information, but think the public has a right to know what is happening on their behalf.
Guests at the event, recently held in the House of Commons, heard from expert speakers pledging their support for the campaign.
Michelle Thew, Chief Executive of the BUAV said, “I’m delighted that so many politicians have lent their support to our campaign. All sides of the animal testing debate agree that an informed discussion is the right way forward, and until we have more openness this cannot take place.”
