Rabbits in stocks at Wickham Laboratories

BUAV the Ugly Truth investigation update

Following the launch of the Ugly Truth investigation at Wickham Laboratories, the BUAV has been campaigning at a national and international level to seek an end to the cruel use of rabbits in pyrogenicity testing and mice in the manufacturing of botox. Our investigation continues to receive international media interest and coverage.

The BUAV has submitted a report of our findings and concerns to the UK Home Office, official and regulatory bodies. The Home Office has subsequently commissioned a review into our findings and BUAV staff have met with its investigating officer.

We have been contacted by and met many concerned politicians and questions have been asked in both the UK and EU parliaments.

Celebrities, including Ricky Gervais, Chrissie Hynde and Annette Crosbie have all stated their support to end the use of mice in botox tests.

We have written to all botox manufacturers urging them to abandon the cruel LD50 test using mice. We have also written to hundreds of cosmetic clinics and cosmetic practitioners licensed to use botox and cosmetic/medical associations and asked them to support a call to botox companies to use alternatives to the cruel mouse test. We were delighted when the well known botox practitioner, Dr Patrick Treacy, Chairman of the Irish Association of Cosmetic Doctors contacted the BUAV and issued his own press release calling for the LD50 mouse test to be replaced.
